You may remember her as great aunt Adelaide on Nanny McPhee. You could know her as the voice of Mrs. Potts on Beauty and the Beast and Dowager Empress Marie on Anastasia.
Now Angela Lansbury will be addressed as Dame Angela Lansbury.
The 88 year-old actress has been declared a DBE [Dame Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire] for her services to the arts.
“I’m joining a marvellous group of women I greatly admire like Judi Dench and Maggie Smith. It’s a lovely thing to be given that nod of approval by your own country and I really cherish it,” Lansbury said.
Last year was a good year for Lansbury, not only was she on the annual New Year Honours List presented by Queen Elizabeth II. In November she received one of four Honorary Oscars allocated by the Academy at the Annual Governor’s Awards. Lansbury has been nominated for an Academy Award three times, with 18 Emmy nominations. She has won three Golden Globes and five Tony Awards.
Dame Angela Lansbury will return to the stage next year with the revival of Blithe Spirit, playing the same role for which she won her last Tony in 2009.
