‘The Croods 2’ Gets Director

A canceled sequel is now back in development from DreamWorks Animation, the follow-up to the cave family film, The Croods.

Wake up you Stone Age ruffians! It looks like The Croods 2 (2020) will be happening after all, according to The Hollywood Reporter, DreamWorks Animation has found a director for the film.

The Croods 2 will be directed by Joel Crawford, who was the story head on last year’s Trolls (2016), also from DreamWorks Animation. The script will once again be penned by the first film’s writers, Chris Sanders (director of How to Train Your Dragon (2010) and Lilo & Stitch (2002)) and Kirk De Micco (director of Space Chimps (2008)), who together also directed the original Croods.

This is certainly an unusual announcement, as back in November of 2016, almost a year ago, DreamWorks proclaimed that The Croods 2, which had been in development for a few years, was canceled. Not only is the film not canceled now, but it has a director, the first news we’ve heard since we supposedly were not getting a part two. Might finding the right director have been the problem all along? It is great to see something like this happen though. So many films that we might want to see get canceled, and unfortunately they never see the light of day again. This one appears to have the gumption to be made, so hopefully we will get a sequel here that is just as entertaining as the first.

According to the Internet Movie Database (IMDb), The Croods 2 will star the returning voice talents of Nicolas Cage (The Sorcerer’s Apprentice (2010)), Emma Stone (La La Land (2016)), Clark Duke (Hot Tub Time Machine (2010)), Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool (2016)), Catherine Keener (Get Out (2017)), and Cloris Leachman (The Iron Giant (1999)), as well as Leslie Mann (The Other Woman (2014)), and is now set for release on September 8, 2020.

Are you excited for The Croods 2?
