Disney’s Hollywood Studios has been the home of the American Idol Experience since 2005. Today, it was announced that the curtain will close on the show in January 2015.
The show has allowed members of the public an opportunity to compete against other guests in order to earn a Golden Ticket. This ticket allowed them to skip the long line at any American Idol try-out location.
Many AI alums got their Golden Tickets and a few shot to the Top 13 over the years, including Aaron Kelly, who placed fifth in the 2010 American Idol season.
Walt Disney World Resort made the following statement today (June 17):
“…Our partnership with FremantleMedia and 19 Entertainment has been a great addition to the park and we are very appreciative of the amazing cast and guests who have devoted their time and talent to make this experience special and memorable. We are incredibly proud of the more than 2,000 Dream Tickets that have given guests a chance to live their very own Cinderella story and audition for ‘American Idol’[…] We expect the attraction to continue providing top contestants for ‘American Idol’ XIV in the coming year.”
Of course, this makes us wonder about the fate of American Idol the television show. Do you think this is a sign that it’s about to wind down or does it have several more years ahead of it? Let us know in the comments below!
