If you’re an Australian like me, naturally you know who INXS are. On the flip side, if you’re from outside the Land of Oz, and are a fan of, well, music, you should also know who INXS are.

During tonight’s X Factor Australia Grand Final, Channel 7 unveiled the long awaited preview clip for the upcoming two-part mini-series that chronicles the band’s rise to international success, their rock-and-roll lifestyle and the death of frontman Michael Hutchence in 1997. The series will also delve into the high profile relationship between Hutchence and Kylie Minogue and will include real-life file footage from the band’s epic 1991 “Summer XS” tour at Wembley Stadium that attracted in excess of 74,000 fans.

Being billed by media outlets across Australia as “the ultimate tale of sex, drugs, rock and roll and tragedy”and “extraordinary, uncensored story of the most successful band of the 80s”, INXS: Never Tear Us Apart has the full support and backing of the remaining band members, with the band’s long time manager Chris Murphy serving as Co-Executive Producer and bassist/guitarist Tim Farriss being available on set as consultant to the actors.

Tim Farriss said: “I’ve been spending a lot of time with the cast and I’m amazed. At times I actually thought Michael was there. It has been all forms of emotions for me – I’m very excited.”

The series stars Luke Arnold (Winners & Losers) as Michael Hutchence; Hugh Sheridan (Packed To The Rafters) as Garry Gary Beers; Alex Williams (Underground: The Julian Assange Story) plays Kirk Pengilly; NIDA Graduate Nicholas Masters plays Tim Farriss; Ido Drent (Offspring) is Jon Farriss; and Andy Ryan (Underbelly: Squizzy) is Andrew Farriss and last year’s X Factor Australia winner, Samantha Jade will take on the role of Kylie Minogue.

CM Murphy told the Sydney Morning Herald recently that “Luke Arnold will become an international star from playing Michael Hutchence”. And if that isn’t a ringing endorsement, I don’t know what is.

INXS: Never Tear Us Apart will air on the Seven Network in Australia in 2014.
