The Flash: 06×15, The Exorcism of Nash Wells

There’s a lot going on this week in Central City as Barry has to deal with Thawne using his limited speed, a new light meta, and his wife who is still acting a little bit strange.

There’s a lot going on this week in Central City as Barry has to deal with Thawne using his limited speed, a new light meta, and his wife who is still acting a little bit strange.

Iris and the Mirrorverse

The episode picks up right where we left off with newly created Mirror-Kamilla. Eva has clearly been up to no good in the mirrorverse and now she has pulled Kamilla in. But that’s not a problem. Eva tells Iris and Kamilla on the outside to retrieve a device called a prismatic refractor, which will apparently free her from the mirror prison. Iris and Kamilla go after the device in the real world but they are interrupted by Sunshine, another light-bending meta, who is also after the refractor. When Team Flash shows up and stops Sunshine from getting the refactor, Iris and Kamilla take a special interest in where it will be taken. This makes Joe suspicious. Joe says it will be taken to A.R.G.U.S. While Team Flash and the CCPD are battling Sunshine, Iris and Kamilla get the refractor and they give it to Eva in the mirror.

Team Flash vs Sunshine

There’s a new meta in town and Barry is working with very limited speed. Caitlin develops a watch that tells Barry how much speed he is using and cautions him to operate in the black or the green (little to no speed). It turns out Barry’s emotions also affect the speed so when his emotions get the better of him as he hates Thawne, Caitlin benches him. But we all know Barry can’t do nothing. When light-bending meta Sunshine shows up at Mercury Labs to steal the prismatic refractor, Killer Frost says she’s got it covered but Barry takes Velocity X and goes to help. His body rejects the drug and he collapses mid-battle. Thankfully, Joe and the CCPD show up to stop Sunshine.

Sunshine is still out there, wanting the refractor, and Barry has no idea how to help. That is until Mirror-Iris tells him that Barry Allen was stopping criminals long before The Flash was. When Sunshine shows up at CCPD to steal back the refractor instead of it going to A.R.G.U.S., Barry lures Sunshine up to his lab and closes all the windows and the skylight. No light means no powers. It’s a pretty clever plan executed with minimal speed. But Barry thinks he has an idea of how to build a speed force. He finds Nora’s journal and recalls that Thawne taught Nora how to build a speed force. Now he’s hoping Nora can teach them but instead of it being fueled by hate, it will be fueled by his love for Nora.

Crisis of Infinite Wells

Last week, Thawne returned in Nash’s body. Caitlin discovers the brainwaves of all the Wells’ in the multiverse, well former multiverse, are contained in Nash’s brain. This is why he keeps seeing past Wells’. Thawne breaks out of the pipeline after tricking Team Flash into believing he’s Nash and tries to escape using the time sphere. Fortunately, Cisco and Caitlin stop him and tie him down before Barry kills him. Caitlin and Cisco hook up Nash to a machine that is supposed to draw out the negative tachyons and separate his brainwaves from Thawne’s. Cecile is called in to monitor Nash’s psyche. But Thawne has a much stronger hold of Nash than they thought.

Flashback to eight years ago on Earth-718. Nash meets Maya, Allegra’s doppelganger. Nash learns that Maya is an orphan and takes her under his wing. He shows her the business of myth-busting and teaches her that “the prize is everything”. However, Nash can’t let go of the fact that Maya fell from a cliff when she was getting a prize with him.

Nash isn’t having much luck rejecting Thawne so Barry and Cisco go into his mind to help. Barry and Cisco tap into their grief, the grief Barry still feels for Nora and the grief Cisco still feels for Cynthia, to help Nash confront his own grief for Maya. Nash revisits the memory of that day on the cliff and accepts his role in Maya’s death. This frees him from Thawne. But Thawne isn’t dead, he’s just formless right now and all the other Wells still exist inside Nash’s mind.
