The Flash is back this week after a bit of an extended break and it’s back with a pretty dark episode as far as The Flash episodes go. There’s attempted murder, revenge, and thieving.

In the Mirrorverse

In the Mirrorverse, Iris comes up with a plan. She thinks that The Flash can phase her and Eva out. But this means revealing who The Flash is to Eva. Knowing it won’t be long until Barry is there to help Iris, Eva orders Mirror Iris to drain the rest of Barry’s speed so he can’t interfere with her plans. Her plans involve exacting revenge on her husband Joseph Carver. When someone delivers a mirror to Carver’s home, Eva and Joseph get to chatting. Turns out, they just really hate each other and Joseph smashes the mirror.

Joseph Carver vs Joe West

Carver is also trying to get rid of Joe West because of his RICO investigation. He hires Rag Doll, everyone’s favourite creepy villain, to assassinate him. First, Rag Doll commandeers Joe’s car by getting in the engine of Joe’s car and accelerating until it can’t anymore and cutting the brakes. Luckily Joe bails right before the car hit’s a concrete wall and explodes. David Singh tries to get Joe into witness protection but Joe refuses. The next day, Rag Doll tries again. This time, he hides in a file box in the interrogation room where Joe is interrogating Sunshine. Barry figures out that it’s Rag Doll just in time to speed back to the precinct where Rag Doll is shooting at Joe. Unfortunately, Barry can’t stop all the bullets because his speed caps out and Joe gets hit in the arm. Joe says he’s fine and refuses witness protection again. 

Barry and Singh beg Joe to get off the Black Hole case but Joe keeps working away at it as he is trying to protect his family. Joe even goes to Carver’s house to confront him and almost gets a recorded confession that Carver hired Rag Doll to kill Joe but Carver destroys that. Then Rag Doll goes after Cecile, knowing that Joe will come after her. Rag Doll ties her to a pressure bomb. Joe has five minutes to disarm the bomb so he calls Nash. But Nash can’t help diffuse it. So Joe switches places with Cecile and has Barry run Cecile home. When Barry gets back, he is relieved to see that Joe has managed to disarm the bomb. Now, Joe agrees to go into witness protection. It only took three attempted murders.

Federal agents arrive to take Joe into protection. No one knows where they are taking him. Joe says goodbye to Cecile and Barry and David. Barry tries to call Iris but she’s not picking up her phone. Singh returns to his car and Eva is looking back at him through the rearview mirror. How many mirror people are there? How many people want Joe out of the way? Back at home, Mirror Iris blows up at Barry because she didn’t get to say goodbye to her dad. She begs Barry to use his powers so she can say goodbye but Barry says no. Mirror Iris says she’s tired of Barry making decisions on his own because he thinks he knows what’s best for them both. She says now they’ve both lost their parents—that’ a low blow—and orders Barry to leave. No one can pull off the hurt puppy look like Grant Gustin can and it just breaks my heart. Come on, Barry! That’s not Iris! 

Sue Dearbon Returns

Meanwhile, Ralph is still on the case of Sue Dearbon. Sue has recently been targeting banks and their server rooms while there are fancy events going on. Ralph knows the next target and Cisco agrees to come along—on the condition of waffles. They find Sue in the server room at the bank’s event like Ralph said, but she gets away. Onto the next. Ralph finds Sue at a different bank in the middle of a meeting and has worked out that her parents are being extorted by Joseph Carver and Black Hole. Sue hasn’t been stealing from banks, she too has been investigating Black Hole. She agrees to let Ralph help her and admits that she feels bad about tricking him the last time they saw each other. Yay! We all love Ralph and Sue working together. Now it looks like everyone’s looking to take down Joseph Carver and Black Hole.
