Grodd Lives! The Flash Hints At New Villain For Season 3

The Flash producers hint at the return of Gorilla Grodd in the show’s third season.

Along with the introduction of new (and may we say, utterly terrifying) villain Zoom, this season of The Flash saw the return of season one adversary Grodd, the telepathic, mind-controlling gorilla with a soft-spot for Dr. Wells. The gorilla made his first appearance near the end of the show’s first season, and resurfaced (no underground puns intended) with a vengeance in Season 2.

After kidnapping Dr. Caitlyn Snow, it seemed that we’d seen the last of Grodd when Team Flash managed to banish him through a breach to Gorilla City on Earth-2. According to the show’s producers, however, Grodd may be gone for this season, but his story is far from over.

Last night at the TCA 2016 Winter Press Tour, Executive Producer Andrew  Kreisberg stated that although Grodd will not be returning during the second half of this season, he will play a larger roll in the upcoming Season 3 with a multi-episode arc.

According to Kreisberg, the show wants to develop Grodd’s reputation and build anticipation for his next appearance, similar to the treatment of Arrow villain, Ra’s al Ghul.

“I would liken the Gorilla City thing to Ra’s al Ghul,” stated Kreisberg, “You know, you hear about “the man from Nanda Parbat” in [Arrow] Season 1, and “the man who showed Malcolm the way,” and then you met Nyssa, then in Season 3 you met Ra’s. So, it’s a long-term thing.”

Considering the large part that Ra’s al Ghul eventually played in Arrow, this could hint at the possibility of Grodd becoming the main villain for Season 3 or at some point in the near future.

As for this season’s resident big bad guy, Zoom, we’re still anxiously waiting to see how Team Flash figures out how to defeat him. We believe in you, Barry!

The Flash returns on Tuesday, Janaury 19th on the CW!

Until then, remember, GRODD LIVES!
