After being announced earlier this week to be “near death”, Westboro Baptist Church founder Fred Phelps has died at the age of 84,  according to the Huffington Post.

His son Timothy confirmed the news, saying his father died before midnight on Wednesday.

A spokesperson from the Westboro Baptist Church could not be reached for comment.
