2014 will be the first since year since 2005 that not one feature film from Pixar will be released. With Bob Paterson still not replaced as the director of the upcoming film The Good Dinosaur – though Pixar legends John Lasseter and Lee Unkrich are said to be helping with unknown parts of the film – Disney has decided to push back the release of upcoming Pixar film to November 25, 2015, Digital Spy reports.
I’m sure many Pixar fans already have that particular date noted on their calendars for another upcoming Pixar film: Finding Dory. Would Pixar really release two films on the same day?
Unfortunately, that won’t be happening.
Finding Dory is also being pushed back, and its new release date will be June 17, 2016. Finding Dory’s director Andrew Stanton said about The Good Dinosaur, “We can’t have the amount of labor it takes to do these movies at the same time because it becomes unsustainable economically. But it means if one director has a problem, everybody’s connected to the same bed sheet. You pull one end and it makes wrinkles in the other one. It’s a new problem.”
Pixar president Ed Catmull also commented, “Nobody ever remembers the fact that you slipped a film, but they will remember a bad film. Our conclusion was that we were going to give the [dinosaur] film some more time.”
With The Good Dinosaur’s original release of May 30, 2015 now open, Disney has decided to make even more scheduling changes. Robert Stromberg’s live-action film, Angelina Jolie-led Maleficent, will be pushed up from July 2, 2015.
