The Holy Knives Share New Single “Born To Die”

‘”Born To Die” is a gloomy meditation on trying to find connection through online superficial friendships….’

Darkwave indie rock duo The Holy Knives – brothers Kody and Kyle Valentine – have announced their return to the music scene with their looming new single “Born To Die”, which PopWrapped are delighted to premiere. The highly anticipated release highlights singer Kody’s moody baritone over synth-heavy, goth landscapes and slow burning film noir-melodies.

“Born To Die” is a gloomy meditation on trying to find connection through online superficial friendships. The track also narrates the dark side of the internet and how damaging that can be, as Kody confides: “The song started in late-pandemic isolation days when I found myself turning more and more to the internet for social connection. I realized eventually that it was not comforting at all and was in fact more isolating and sometimes pretty menacing. There were a lot of dark things being spread on social media like false information, conspiracy theories, hate, anger, and fear.”

Known for their experimental takes on rock’n’roll, which fuses 80’s-tinged synth pop, psychedelia and goth rock, the duo have built-up a dedicated fanbase with their unique releases and extensive touring in the United States and in Canada, playing over 125 shows. Born and raised in New Orleans, they later relocated to San Antonio, Texas, finding musical inspiration in the vastness of desert life. Taking their name from a combination of their favorite film The Holy Mountain and book The Singing Knives, The Holy Knives aim to create fearless releases that find truth and honesty. With “Born To Die”, the two have done just that, reminding us all of the perils that can be found on the internet.
