Rejoice, Maze Runner fans! Wes Ball has confirmed that a sequel for the not-yet-released film is already in the making.

An adaptation of a best selling young adult novel by James Dashner, the film stars Dylan O’ Brien (Teen Wolf), Will Poulter (We’re the Millers) and Kaya Scodelario (Skins). The Maze Runner tells us the tale of Thomas, an amnesic young man who wake up in a place called the Glades surrounded by people he doesn’t know. The only way to escape the Glades is to venture into a deadly maze that is filled with creatures called Grievers.

In an earlier interview, Ball revealed to Buzzfeed that “they’ve got stages, crews coming in, Dylan will be back in a few weeks, they’re building sets, and the script is being written.” Ball further added, “It’s a bit of a race this time because they’re cautiously optimistic, but they’re feeling excited because they’re about to do something that’s way more sophisticated, way more grown up, and really set up a saga here.”

Ball also admitted that he hopes The Maze Runner‘s ending will not turn off viewers for the sequel. Confessing that the first film will not answer the viewers questions, Ball hopes audiences will eagerly anticipate the sequel, The Scorch Trials, because the film will, “Pick up exactly where it left off; you could really watch the movies back-to-back and it would be one long story.”

The Maze Runner debuts in theaters near you on September 19th, 2014. Check out the trailer for the highly anticipated film below!
