While it was heavily rumored that Arnold Schwarzenegger would be appearing as the villain in the upcoming film Avatar 2, it looks like that will not be the case. Rumors first surfaced when The Latino Review exclusively reported that he would be taking on the role of the bad guy in the upcoming sequel to the blockbuster hit. The studio for the film is saying another story though.

A spokesperson for 20th Century Fox told The Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday that Schwarzenegger will NOT be appearing in the Sci-Fi sequel as the villain or any role in general right now. While it is false now it should be noted that things can change very quickly, but from what The Hollywood Reporter heard it looks like things will not be changing in this case.

Many were hoping that Schwarzenegger would be appearing in the films since he’s worked with the film’s director, James Cameron, on films in the past. He’s worked with him on 1991’s Terminator 2: Judgment Day and 1994’s True Lies.

While you won’t be seeing him in Avatar 2, you will be able to catch him in the upcoming film, Escape Plan, which is set to hit theatres on October 18, 2013.

Avatar 2 will not be the only sequel in the series as two more sequels are also being written to make a total of 4 Avatar movies all together. Josh Friedman is currently writing Avatar 2, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver are writing Avatar 3, and Shane Salerno is writing Avatar 4. The three films are set to be shot one right after the other next year and to be released in December of 2016, 2017, and 2018.
