With the new season of The Vampire Diaries’ to premiere in just over a month, the release tomorrow (August 26) of the fourth season on DVD, Blu-ray and digital download comes at the perfect time for marathon viewings. Not only does the set contain all 23 episodes but some pretty cool bonus features as well.
First up is a documentary entitled Blood, Boys and Bad Behaviour: Becoming a Vampire. Vampires have appeared in folklore from around the world for millennia. While vampires often have similar features and characteristics, there are quite a few different types that have emerged. In this documentary the cast and crew, including Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley, discuss these different types of vampires as well as how Elena’s transformation into a vampire in the series has caused the dynamics to change. A significant focus of the season was Elena adjusting to her life as a vampire. Unsurprisingly, another feature is The Evolution of Elena Gilbert. This special involves the cast and crew talking about their favourite Elena moments from season 4.
Rounding out the special features are deleted scenes, a gag reel, slide shows as well as a documentary on Prop Master Joe Connolly’s work on the series in The Vampire Diaries: The Ultimate Prop Master and an in depth look at the superhuman muscles and tattoos that appear on the show in Inking the Brotherhood: The Hunter’s Mark.
The Vampire Diaries: The Complete Fourth Season is out on Blu-ray and DVD on August 26. Season 5 of The Vampire Diaries premieres on The CW October 3.
