Welcome back to the Unholy Duo’s (just for tonight, Tarra will be back tonight) recap of The Voice

Will Blake whip out his awards? Will Usher dance? Will Adam make awesome snarky comebacks? Will Shakira continue to be adorable? Will Carson grow a personality and stop being creepy? Will Christina Milian actually be useful? Who will snag more members on their team? Will Shaki keep up with the boys? Will the bromance hit a snag tonight? Is Usher going to keep his legs down? Let’s find out!

Let’s take a look at team line-up.

Team Adam: 8

Team Blake: 7

Team Shakira: 9

Team Usher: 8

Bec:

“U Got It Bad” sung by Jeff Lewis: A Texan “starter” on a golf course which I have clue what that means. He’s a dancer who turned musician who worked with Interscope records. The record was shelved and it wasn’t released. He’s also singing an Usher song, which is always a risky move. He does a lovely acoustic sounding thing. Granted I have never listened to this before. Usher, Blake and Shakira ALL turn around at the LAST POSSIBLE MINUTE. Blake and Shakira make half-hearted pitches. Usher, however, seems to know he has this in the bag.

TEAM USHER

Erika:

Jeff Lewis: Sounds like he will be a good old country boy cuz he’s from Texas but he’s got different style to him. Takes on Usher’s “You Got It Bad”. And he plays the guitar. Reminds me of Kris Allen! I’m digging it! Shaki, Blake and Usher all turn at the last minute! Blake tries his usual schtick by saying he’s from wherever the singer is from but Usher moonwalks his way to another team member!

Bec:

“She Talks to Angels” sung by Shawna P: A forty five year old contestant who saw Elvis in concert when she was eight. She performed in the Music Mafia. She’s had a lot of amazing experiences while performing. After the Music Mafia disbanded, she figured to give it a chance. She has a nice voice and a good rasp. However, I think she does some weird stuff vocally. Shakira turns around for her! Yay I’m happy! Adam also joins Shakira. Adam and Shakira both honestly try to get her on their team.

TEAM SHAKIRA

Erika:

Shawna P: A veteran in the music biz; all her friends have record deal but her! Does this 45 year old have what it takes? Umm she’s trying too hard! What is with excess screaming? Okay, she toned it down and sounds like Melissa Etheridge. Adam and Shakira turn for her! They both fight it out but Shawna goes with Shaki!

Bec:

“Tiny Dancer” sung by Caroline Glaser: A coffeehouse singer from St. Louis who is a college freshman and had to withdraw from college for a semester. Her parents are adorable. She has a pretty raspy voice. Blake and Shakira turn around at the same time. She is totally adorable. I want to put her in my pocket. Shakira and Blake fight very hard for the indie rocker.

TEAM BLAKE

Erika:

Caroline Glaser: Coffeshop singer who sounds a bit like Colbie Caillait from her clip. Let’s see if this young chick has what it takes. Goes with one of my fave songs by Elton John, “Tiny Dancer”. Loving her indie sounding voice! Blake and Shaki turn for her! Poor girl tears up! Shakira uses an SAT word that leaves the guys confused but Shakira fights hard for her despite Blake’s charms. She goes with Blake! Blake rubbing it in Shaki’s face: priceless.

Bec:

“As Long As You Love Me” sung by Cameron: Aww. This guy is adorable. He works with kids and wants to show them to follow their dreams. He’s adorable and his aunt is adorable. He even has a decent voice. He has a nice rasp but the high notes are hard for him to hit. He danced more than he sang. I’m kind of bummed no one picked him. I hope he auditions again next season.

Erika:

Cameron: An apparent jack of all trades. Let’s see if he actually sings. Looks like he’s more of a dancer from his reel. Very weak voice. Pitchy as hell! Too much dancing! This isn’t SYTYCD! Got called out on it! No turns for him! Back to the drawing board!

Bec:

“Somebody Like You” sung by Michael Austin: I am totally calling him “Big Country”. He is a deputy sheriff who wants to perform. His band even performs in Vegas. I really like him and his cowboy hat. He has just this gorgeous voice. He has a country rock vibe and Adam turns around. Shakira joins Adam a second later. Blake is thinking very very very very hard about this. It may come to Adam and Shakira. Adam adorably slams Blake and tries to win another country artist. The performance did put me in a good mood too, Shakira. She tries to pitch that she can also yodel. I hope he and Adam get to compare tattoos.

TEAM ADAM

Erika:

Michael Austin: A deputy sheriff who likes to rock out on the side! Looks like he could be in the band Big & Rich with his looks. This should be interesting! Takes on one of my favorite Keith Urban songs “Somebody Like You”. He’s doing it justice so far! Adam and Shaki seem to be digging it too! They both turn for him! Adam calls Blake stupid for not turning around for this country guy! Blake thought he was going to whoop his ass for not turning around. Shaki loves the levels of his voice. I appreciate that she notices the distinctive qualities of the voices. Adam wins him over though!

Bec:

“Not Ready to Make Nice” sung by Sasha Allen: A mother turned background singer who has a career in music. She plans on singing a Dixie Chicks song for her audition. I love her dress. She wants to succeed for her family and her children’s sake. It’s very heartwarming. I want her to succeed. She has a gorgeous voice and I love it. She has the slightest rasp and amazing control. She is just breathtaking. When she hits that glory note Adam starts a trend of chair turning that has her a four chair turn. Adam and Usher give her standing ovations.  I love the how the coaches are just fighting over her.

TEAM ADAM

Erika:

Sasha Allen: Mom of two (a newborn to boot!). Classically trained pianist! Sounds like she will be a winner. She has sung for Christina Aguilera and John Legend. Takes on a Dixie Chicks’ song “I’m Not Ready to Make Nice”. All the judges turn for her the second she hits her high note! She’s very restrained but it works for her! Usher sounds like he is campaigning for Pres which Blake calls him out on beautifully! As it is a four chair swivel, my money is on Adam on winning her over but I secretly hope Shaki gets her (in case it hasn’t become quite clear to you all by now, I’m #TEAMSHAKIRA). It’s Adam for the win again!

Bec:

“Teenage Dream” sung by Matt Cermanski: He wants to get out of his small town. His Uncle was also part of the band who made Disco Inferno. This is like one big Glee references. Sorry dude. Darren Criss owns this song. You have a good voice but I don’t think Katy Perry suits you well. He has some pitch issues and I think he needs to be a little more trained.

Erika:

Matt Cermanski: Uncle played for the Tramps in the 70s (Remember Burn, Baby, Burn). He takes on my fave Katy Perry song “Teenage Dream”. He better not mess up! He’s no Darren Criss! Please have a seat, sir! Get off the stage! Boo! No turns for him! He was trying too hard! The song was not in his range! That song was not meant for anyone but Darren Criss or Katy Perry!

There is a montage of people making teams Usher, Adam,  and Blake.

Bec:

“Como la Flor” sung by Mary Miranda: This seventeen year old was born in Cuba and moved to New Mexico with her family. She had communication issues growing up and used music to learn English. She doesn’t get to see her Dad because he moved to Spain. She makes me tear up because she is adorable and sweet. She has a powerful and just amazing voice that I instantly love. Someone has to pick this girl! She is just amazing!!! Shakira FINALLY turns around for her. Her family freaks out. Blake and Usher turn just to mess with Shakira and because Mary is just that amazing.  Blake and Usher try but she cries the moment Shakira speaks.

TEAM SHAKIRA

Erika:

Mary Miranda: From Havana, Cuba hoping to fulfill the American Dream. The girl nails a Selena spanish  classic! That first note: OMG! Shaki turns first with Blake, and Usher following as they keep trying to woo her over to their teams. I smell sabotage! The girl wisely chooses to go with her idol, Shaki! The judges make fun of Blake’s Spanish as they turn back around.

Bec:

“These Boots Are Made For Walking” sung by Grace Askew: A “bluntry” artist who grew up in Memphis. She hit the road when she was twenty two for her first ever tour. She worked hard and has toured in forty states. She wants the coaches help to get her career jumping. She has a great country voice. Blake turns around instantly. Shakira turns around for her as well. She has a great stage presence. Grace is awesome. My country loving friend says she prefers this cover over the original. Blake is ready to fight people for the death for her. It’s hilarious and adorable.

TEAM BLAKE

Erika:

Grace Askew: Describes her sound as “bluntry”, a mix of blues and country….if she impresses, she will go with Blake I think. She goes with Nancy Sinatra’s “These Boots Were Made for Walking”; Blake turns first but Shaki is also impressed as am I. The grittiness of her voice is amazing! Her sassy delivery works for her too! I would love for Shakira to get her because it would be so different for her to take on a country singer. Blake, of course, wants her and plies on the charm to try to get her. Blake plays dirty and tells her that she will be history if she goes with Shaki (low blow). Being a country girl at heart, she goes with Blake.

Bec:

“You’ve Got the Love” sung by Jane Smith: An adorable eighteen year old who is adorkable. Her parents both got cancer around the same time. Her father died but her mother survived. She has a good raspy voice but there is something in her voice that I don’t like. I think she’s trying too hard to be Florence Welch. None of the coaches choose her but encourage her to come back in the future. I think this was the song choice that was to her detriment.

Erika:

Jane Smith: Poor girl lost her father and dedicates her performance to him *tears*. She’s got an interesting voice but sounds really nervous. Tries to sound a bit like Florence Welch. Very shaky on bits which the judges pick up on. I would like to see her again but she does need to keep working on her voice in order to make it past these judges.

There is a montage of failed young artists…yikes…the odds were not in their favor.

Bec:

“Gravity” sung by Ryan Innes: He was going to be a doctor. However, his engagement broke up before the wedding. He decided to do what he wanted versus what others expected for him.  He does a lot of stuff with music to make money. He’s kind of adorable. It’s an awesome night for older artists. He sings one word and Adam turns around. Blake follows Adam.  He is taking everyone to church. The newbies turn around last.  His voice is amazing for the soul. I love Ryan’s voice because it’s just absolutely gorgeous.

TEAM USHER

Erika:

Ryan Innes: Soulful singer from Utah. Turned to music for comfort after life kicked him in the ass. Takes on “Gravity” by John Mayer. Excuse me while I go pick up my jaw off the floor because Big Boy has some soul! Adam and Blake are impressed too! Usher and Shakira turn around by the end. So much feeling in this performance. He’s got it. Now who will get him? Blake tells him the other judges are full of it so he better pick him because he has won before. Shakira tells him that she felt so relaxed listening to him, and Usher compliments him on shaking the entire room. Adam keeps it short and sweet by telling him he turned first with the “lightining quickness”. He shocks the whole room by picking Usher as he ends Adam’s 4 chair swivel victories!

Highlights:

Shakira using big vocabulary words and leaving the guys in the dark.

Shakira mouthing those mothereffers after Usher and Blake turn on her pick.

Blake’s horrible Spanish!

Tonight’s the last night! Who will end up with the strongest team?
