The Voice defeated The Amazing Race at the 2013 Emmy Awards on Sunday. The singing competition overthrew the worldwide race by taking home the award for Outstanding Reality Show – Competition.
The Amazing Race has been a crowd favorite for years, winning the same award nine times in the past ten years, losing only to Top Chef in 2010.
Not only was this the first year that The Voice was nominated, but it was also the only singing competition nominated in this category. Other reality shows nominated were So You Think You Can Dance, Project Runway, Top Chef, and Dancing With the Stars.
The fifth season of The Voice sees the return of all four original coaches; Christina Aguilera, Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, and Cee Lo Green. Last season Aguilera and Green went on sabbatical, and were temporarily replaced by Usher and Shakira.
The Voice premieres Monday, September 23 (tonight) at 8 p.m. on NBC.
