Theo James Is Too Old For A ‘Divergent’ Prequel Adaptation

Apparently, ‘The Divergent Series’ won’t include an adaptation of the prequel book ‘Four’, as Theo James’ age wouldn’t allow him to look like a teenager.

The Divergent films are utterly based on the novels penned by Veronica Roth, but it seems one of them won’t be receiving the film treatment. According to brand-new information, the prequel book Four will be left without a big screen adaptation, owing to Theo James’ age.

Even though Four was mentioned as a potential source for a movie before by Lionsgate, that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. Lucy Fisher, responsible for producing Divergent, explained that the character Four is taken back to his teenage years in the book and Theo James couldn’t possibly look like a high school student in his 30′s. Since there is not the slightest of interest in recasting the character, the case is pretty much closed. In her words:

“We’ve considered expanding in other directions. ‘Four’ takes place when Four is in high school. It would pain us too much to have Four be anybody but Theo. Roth wrote a lot of material that she didn’t use, too. Not to get ahead of ourselves, but we’ll mine her brain. But we keep Four as Theo James.”

Despite these comments, Lionsgate does seem really interested in keepingThe Divergent Series alive. With the two parts of Allegiant coming out in the next couple of years, there’s plenty of time for negotiations and things could eventually end up in a different place. After all, would it be that bad to recast the character for one single film, once we’re done with the main trilogy? You be the judge in the comments below.
