‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Star Tessa Thompson Asked Kevin Feige For An All Female MCU Movie

Thor: Ragnarok star Tessa Thompson and other actresses in the MCU has asked Marvel President, Kevin Feige for an all female superhero team film

Thank you, Tessa!

Thor: Ragnarok‘s Tessa Thompson together with other actresses in the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise, has asked Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige for an all-female superhero film. And Feige said yes!

Thompson spoke about this request during a recent press conference for Thor: Ragnarok. “Recently, I marched up with a couple of other women that work in Marvel and we went to Kevin (Feige), ‘What about a movie with some female superheroes? Like all of them?’” she said.

“It was a pretty amazing moment to be somewhere and have your shoulder get tapped and turn around every female hero we have is standing there going, ‘How about it?’” Feige who was also present during a press conference replied. “And I said, ‘Yes.’”

Mark Ruffalo who will reprise his Hulk character in the movie then piped in with a suggested title. “The Fevengers!” he joked.

Thompson then waded into Marvel comics lore. “There’s a precedent for it in the comics, right?” she asked. “With teams like Lady Liberators?”

Who could this movie star?

The Lady Liberators originally appeared in a single issue of The Avengers in the 1970’s. The original team consisted of current mainstays of the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, The Wasp, and Medusa (who although does not appear in movies, is a main character in Marvel’s Inhumans on television).

Interestingly enough, the group was led by Valkyrie in the comics, a character that will be portrayed by Tessa Thompson in Thor: Ragnarok. There is a twist though, in the comics Valkyrie was actually a villain in disguise named Enchantress, (not to be confused with the Suicide Squad character of the same name). Marvel’s Enchantress has not yet appeared in the MCU, but her sister Lorelei with similar powers was in one episode of Agents Of SHIELD.

Tick tock, Marvel

If this project pushes through, most of the characters are already in place, and we don’t need a long background story to set the scene. We could just get onto the action. However, this does not really mean it’ll be made or will come soon. So far Marvel’s schedule is still full up to 2020, so if this goes into development, the earliest we could get is around 2021, which is a long way off.

But still, it might be worth the wait and a step up towards diversifying the MCU.
