Did you know that long before Benedict Cumberbatch was known for his titular, defining role as Sherlock, he was a theatre actor? In fact, the man has had a multitude of theatre roles since 2001, including an Olivier Award nominated performance as George Tesman in Hedda Gabler.
Now, Cumberbatch is headlining what’s being touted as THE theatrical event of 2014– a 12-week-long showing of Shakespeare’s classic Hamlet, produced by Lyndsey Turner.
While tickets are already on sale for Barbarican Red members as of August 1 and Barbarican White members as of August 4, tickets will not go on sale to the public until August 11 at 10:00 am. Tickets are priced between £30 and £62.50 plus booking fee with a limited number of Premium Seats also available. For each performance, there will be 100 seats available at £10 per, and there will also be 4 education matinees for schools, higher education students, and further education students that will purportedly go on sale in early 2015.
Will Cumberbatch have what it takes to rival the likes of even Rory Kinnear or Ben Winshaw? Only time will tell.
