The West End has been having a resurgence in big name stars taking to the boards recently; we have had Dan Radcliffe, Jude Law, David Tennant and Tom Hiddleston. Now we can add Benedict Cumberbatch to that list.
Yes that’s right dear Cumbercollective, Benedict WILL be taking to the West End stage in 2014 AND he is going to be playing Hamlet. In a brand new interview with USA Today, the Sherlock star said “I know for certain I’m doing Hamlet sometime in the autumn on the London stage.” There are no details of which theatre it will stage in however by playing this role, Cumberbatch will be fulfilling one of his dream roles. It is believed that the production will be directed by Lyndsey Turner.
We haven’t seen Cumberbatch on the stage since 2011 when he played both the Monster and Frankenstein with Jonny Lee Miller at London’s National Theatre which won him an Olivier Award.
As soon as any more information is released we will let you all know.
