WARNING! Spoilers abound!
True Blood‘s Nelsan Ellis, who plays fan-fave Lafayette Reynolds, has finally spoken up about costar Luke Grimes’ sudden departure from the hit HBO series.
Speculation arose that Luke Grimes abruptly quit the series after finding out about his romantic storyline with Nelsan Ellis. Although Ellis did not get a chance to interact with Grimes, you can tell how flabbergasted he [Ellis] is about Grimes’s attitude towards his shifting storyline. Ellis, clearly not pleased with Grimes’s unwillingness to evolve as an actor, commented, “You’re an actor, you’re an actor on a show that’s True Blood, we’re all sitting there going, ‘You quit your job because … really?’ I’m just… I’m over him.”
Ellis exhibits his professionalism and willingness to adapt to his roles further adding, “I’m supposed to do what my boss tells me to do, as an actor. I can’t approach a character with judgment. I certainly can’t tell my boss, ‘I can act what I want to act, but not what you tell me to act,’ especially on a show where you come in, knowing what it is.”
Ellis may have less-than-kind feelings for Luke Grimes, but he has nothing but good things to say about Nathan Parsons. Parsons replaced Grimes as Lafayette’s hunky love interest James. Ellis praises Parson’s professionalism on set behavior and his ability to put his heart and soul into his work. Further adding that he loves to watch Parsons work and that they, “Have good chemistry, and it worked. It worked.”
It worked alright. The sizzling chemistry between the two has me swooning and thirsting for more. As beloved as Jesus was to the show, I’m now desperately rooting for Lafayette and James to have their happily ever after. Grimes missed out on a juicy role but I can’t imagine anyone but Parsons playing the charming James who’s after dear Lafayette’s heart.
