Uptown Magazine Hosts Pre-Oscar Gala Tribute To Lee Daniels

The Annual Uptown Pre-Oscar Gala for this year was a lovely and touching tribute to the creative genius that is Lee Daniels.

Uptown Ventures Group, the parent company of UPTOWN Magazine, honored acclaimed film and television director, writer, and producer Lee Daniels this past Thursday night at the 2015 Annual Uptown Pre-Oscar Gala presented by Lexus. The Gala took place at Fig & Olive in West Hollywood, California. The evening highlighted Daniels and his extraordinary work including his critically acclaimed films The Butler, Monster’s Ball, and Precious, and most recently Fox’s new drama Empire. Hollywood showed up in true style and graced the red carpet including previous and current actors who have appeared in Daniels’ work.

As the beautiful dinner was served, celebrities close to Daniels, like Paula Patton, gave reflections on Daniel’s ability to push them further to greatness. “You let me fly within the moment and I hope I get to do it again with you. You make us feel for the people you never thought you would feel for.” Daniel Oyelowo was also on hand giving his honor and thanks to Lee Daniels, acknowledging it was prayer that ultimately got him the role of Dr. Martin Luther King in Selma. When Daniels took the stage there was a standing ovation, as love and gratitude was all around the room. Everyone from Debbie Allen, Gladys Knight, Brandy, Bevy Smith, and John Singleton came to pay tribute to someone who believes in telling his story, his truth, and sharing it with the universe.
