Waitress: The Musical Gets Two New Leading Stars

Chris Diamantopoulos and Sara Bareilles will join the cast of Waitress: The Musical following the departure of cast members Jessie Mueller & Drew Gehling.

Looks like Broadway’s Waitress is getting two new leading cast members. Chris Diamantopolos and Sara Bareilles will be taking over as gynecologist Dr. Pomatter and Jenna in the hit Broadway musical. Original cast members Jessie Mueller and Drew Gehling will play their final performances on March 26 and March 30 of this year.

Diamantopoulos made his Broadway debut back in 2002 in The Full Monty as Ethan Girard. Since his debut, he has been in shows like Les Miserables as well as in the touring companies of Music of the Night, Joseph, Evita and Forever Plaid.

Broadway isn’t the only place you might have seen Diamantopoulos, though. On television, his credits include HBO’s Silicon Valley and Good Girls Revolt, Behind the Camera: The Unauthorized Story of Mork and Mindy, The Office, Arrested Development, 24, and The Kennedys.

Diamantopoulos has also graced the big screen with movies like The Three Stooges, The Art of the Steal, and Man VS.

Sara Bareilles has made it big as a singer-songwriter of her own accord. In 2007, she released her first hit “Love Song,” which reached #1 in 22 countries around the world. Since then, she has sold millions of albums and received over five Grammy nominations, including Song of the Year. She has been seen on the judge’s panel of the hit NBC show The Sing-off. Bareilles released two more albums and a book entitled Sounds Like Me: My Life (So Far) In Song. Since then, she has been kept herself busy by writing the music and lyrics for the musical herself.

Waitress: the Musical will begin its U.S national tour at Cleveland’s Playhouse Square this October.

Diamantopolos and Bareilles will start their runs in Waitress on March 31. You can purchase your tickets here!
