This morning on Twitter, social media darling (and all around Queen of The World) JK Rowling made some VERY exciting announcements that have Harry Potter fans all in a tizzy.
First she reminded the fandom that, exactly 18 years ago today, the most magical of journeys began, as Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s (Sorcerer’s) Stone was published in the UK.
Today is a very special day for two reasons. Firstly, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was published in the UK 18 years ago!

Rowling then went on to announce that she and writer Jack Thorne are working on an ENTIRELY NEW Harry Potter story that will debut in play form in London next year. The play will be called Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, will be directed by John Tiffany and, while it will tell a new story, it will NOT be a prequel.
I'm also very excited to confirm today that a new play called Harry Potter and the #CursedChild will be opening in London next year.

It will tell a new story, which is the result of a collaboration between writer Jack Thorne, director John Tiffany and myself. #CursedChild

I don't want to say too much more, because I don't want to spoil what I know will be a real treat for fans. #CursedChild

However, I can say that it is not a prequel! #CursedChild

She also made a preemptive move and answered one of the “inevitable” questions she was sure to be asked: “Why didn’t you just write another Harry Potter novel?”
To answer one inevitable (and reasonable!) question – why isn't #CursedChild a new novel? – I am confident that when audiences see the play

they will agree that it was the only proper medium for the story. #CursedChild

It is no secret that Jo has been wooed ceaselessly since we all read “All was well” in the Deathly Hallows those many years ago. And everyone’s efforts, for the most part, have been rebuked. So for her to actively jump back into the Harry Potter fold, it must be a truly spectacular endeavor.
I've had countless offers to extend Harry's story over the years, but Jack, John and Sonia Friedman are a dream team! #CursedChild

It has been a huge pleasure to share with them (and soon, with you!) this untold part of Harry's story. #CursedChild

Now my only question is: how much is it going to cost me to get to London and witness this magical bit of theater for myself?
