Showing his true talent, Wayne Rooney scored a magnificent goal against West Ham in Saturday’s Premier League match, beating goalkeeper Adrian with a shot from over 55 yards out.
The Manchester United striker didn’t hesitate for a second. As soon as he saw Adrian off his line, he took the volley and left the West Ham goalkeeper without a chance, producing a goal that reminded fans only of David Beckham’s wonder strike at Wimbledon in 1996.
Beckham himself happened to be watching the match from the stands, and when the camera turned to him, he smiled wryly, clearly not missing the resemblance to his own goal.
It marked Rooney’s 211th goal for Manchester United, and after later scoring the final goal of the match and giving United a 2-0 lead, that put him in the top three highest scoring strikers the club has ever had.
