Weird Al week is nearly over, and today he released a new music video from his album, Mandatory Fun (which you can purchase on iTunes). The song is a style parody of legendary band, The Pixies.
In another one of his patented edgy songs, Weird Al has called out those living in the first world, and in a song called “First World Problems” has pointed out all the little irritations we feel everyday.
“First World Problems” is all about, well, first world problems. Weird Al makes mention of all the minutiae in our lives that very often cause major irritation to us for some reason – things from waking up late and missing the breakfast special, to forgetting where you parked your car. Of course what makes this so funny is Al’s reactions to all these very minor problems – he overreacts to the extreme, making it seem like his entire life is over.
It makes a scathing and satirical remark on upper-class society and elitism, and while it is a very edgy critique on society and their wishes, it never becomes controversial, and is purely for the sake of comedy. The social message is meant to be more funny than critical.
