A two-year hiatus means nothing when you’re Justin Bieber.
His highly-anticipated comeback single, “What Do You Mean?” skyrocketed to #1 on iTunes in less than 24 hours after its release, hit the top spot in 90 countries last week, earned him his first UK #1, and broke One Direction’s Spotify record (which they JUST set last month–sheesh).
In addition, the 21-year-old pop star blew the audience away at the MTV Video Music Awards last weekend (August 30), even shedding some tears as his return to the stage overwhelmed him.
“It was a little overwhelming,” he explained to Jimmy Fallon recently. “I missed some cues, so I was a little disappointed at that. And just…the support. Honestly, I just wasn’t expecting them to support me in the way they did.”
Later that night, the “WDYM?” music video premiered; he and his leading lady shed almost every article of clothing within the first minute (throwing in a not-so-subtle Calvin Klein promo shot), before being kidnapped from their motel room. The end was a somewhat baffling twist but, being Bieber, he pulled it off.
His new album is expected on November 13.
