Whenever an actor truly likes the character they play, it always leads them to put up their best performance. “I’d be lying if I said I chose that role,” the Australian star explained. “At the time, I would have taken anything. It was my first job in America, but I happened to sort of find this character that is eternally fascinating to me.”

He also explained why he thinks Wolverine has been able to stay popular for such a long time, saying “He’s cool. He’s in every way an actor’s dream. I know it’s a big action movie, but actually there’s a lot to it.”

“There’s a lot of complexity… There’s more romance in this one, which I haven’t told my wife about yet. And the claws! Actually, now my kids are starting to admit that it’s cool.”

Jackman seems very much attached to the role, and has said that he is definitely planning to reprise his role again for the next film X-Men: Days of Future Past.

The Wolverine will be released on Thursday July 25th in the UK and July 26th in the US, and sees Jackman taking it up against samurais as he travels to Japan!
