Perry described the song which is the first off the upcoming album Prism as a post-breakup song to get over the one who you used to love. Katy revealed to Radio 1 that she self-composed it after being tired of holding back all of her feelings and thoughts in secret in which she never stood up for herself. This pain caused her displeasure.

Perry went on to explain that she has been through a lot of different things in the past year since Teenage Dream released which is what Roar is about. In 2010, after the release of Teenage Dream the superstar separated from comedian Russell Brand after only 14 months together. It has been confirmed by Katy in a recent Vogue article that Russell requested for the separation through a text message.

In other news, Perry released a lyric video to “Roar” which you can check out below!
