A young life was lost last week after a childish prank carried deadly consequences.

Pranksters on a school bus in Shreveport, Louisiana tied together the shoelaces of six-year-old Brendan Houston. After Brendan exited the bus, he noticed the prank and stopped to untie the laces. The bus driver was not able to see the child where he had stopped and struck him as she began to move the bus.

Brendan was taken to the hospital where his injuries proved fatal.

Police investigating the case declared the driver was not under the influence at the time of the incident.

Hopefully this tragic accident will be a wake-up call to schools and parents to emphasize safety and respectful behavior among students, especially near potential dangers such as moving vehicles.
