It’s something we’ve all done, whether it be with a group of friends, or in an official capacity on the interactive web treasure that is Pottermore: sorted ourselves and our friends into one of the four Harry Potter houses. If you don’t know what this means, well, just keep that to yourself. I don’t need that kind of negativity in my life.

Stars of the mega-hit, Downton Abbey, Hugh Bonneville (Lord Grantham), Laura Carmichael (Lady Edith) and Rob James-Collier (Under Butler Thomas Barrow), were asked which houses various characters would be sorted into, and the result is delightful.

They all agree that Violet would be in Gryffindor, which, duh. The head of Griffindor House WAS played by the same actress, after all. Carmichael sorted her character, Edith, into Ravenclaw, stating that most would probably say Slytherin but “She’s not that bad.” And we all know that Mr. Barrow would be in Slytherin, but James-Collier believes he has potential for Gryffindor.

Bates, Anna and Sybil were all sorted into Gryffindor, while Bonneville sorted himself into Hufflepuff because he’s a bit slow and “behind the times.”
