Control, alt, DELETE. Yep, the Twelfth Doctor is set to battle the Cybermen in the season eight finale of Doctor Who.
The BBC confirmed the villains’ return with a photograph of Peter Capaldi’s Doctor and new co-star Michelle Gomez as filming commenced in Cardiff this week.
The finale is being directed by Rachel Talalay, and has been affectionately nicknamed “The Crescendo Block,” leading people to speculate which famous foe will come up against Capaldi. And it turns out that it’s Cybermen. Lots of them.
First devised by Kit Pedler and Gerry Davis for the 1966 serial “The Tenth Planet” starring Second Doctor Patrick Troughton, almost 50 years later it is still as exciting as ever to see them taking on a new incarnation of our favorite Timelord.
Last seen in Matt Smith’s finale, “The Time of the Doctor,” these upgraded monsters look set to cause some serious trouble.
With the Cybermen and Gomez’s “Gatekeeper of the Nethersphere” already revealed, we’re wondering what they’re holding back. Just what’s in store for this more mature Doctor?
Doctor Who returns on August 23 with Deep Breath on BBC One.
