The film centers on 19-year-old Andrew Neiman, (played by Miles Teller) and details his pursuit of a career as a jazz musician with a love for drumming. J.K. Simmons plays the role of Terence Fletcher, Neiman’s jazz instructor whose unconventional methods push students to the peak of their abilities and leads Neiman striving for complete performance perfection in a film that details the constant search for artistic happiness and the mental anguish associated. The film goes on to explore the depths of music, passion, commitment, and personal relationships, making it an elaborate example of a well-rounded film.
The jazz film has achieved overwhelmingly positive reviews and adoration, with many critics praising its creative genius and fight-like intensity, earning a 95% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Whiplash began originally as a short, and after gaining notoriety at the Sundance Film Festival, Damien Chazelle recreated it into a feature-length film.
