Director Alfonso Cuarón was among one of the big winners during last night’s 66th Annual Directors Guild of America Awards.<
Winning the top honor of the night was Cuarón, who took home the award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in a Feature Film for Gravity. He beat out other top contenders for the award which included Paul Greengrass (Captain Phillips), Steve McQueen (Twelve Years A Slave), David O. Russell, (American Hustle), and Martin Scorsese (The Wolf of Wall Street).
“This is truly an honor and I am humbled by it,” Cuarón said accepting his award from Ben Affleck, the DGA’s winner of the award last year. He thanked his production team and joked about the complexity of their filmmaking process saying, “I barely understand how we made the film.
On the television side of the awards show, Vince Gillian took the prize in “Dramatic Series” for directing the episode “Felina” on AMC favorite Breaking Bad. The DGA’s “Comedy Series” winner was ten time nominee Beth McCarthy-Miller who won her first award that night for “Hogcock!/Last Lunch” on NBC’s 30 Rock.
Jane Lynch hosted the award’s ceremony which took place at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles. Also in attendance were presenters Sandra Bullock, Don Cheadle, Bradley Cooper, Tom Hanks, Anna Kendrick, and Kerry Washington.
