The upcoming Robert Downey, Jr. film The Judge has added another big name to its roster – Robert Duvall. He’ll be playing he eponymous role and the father of Downey, Jr.’s character. Last year the Iron Man star had indicated that he hoped Jack Nicholson would be available and willing to take on the project, but we’ll have to hope he’s happy with a different Oscar winner filling the role.

The film is being directed by David Dobkin (Wedding Crashers) and follows a hotshot lawyer (Downey, Jr.) who returns home in the wake of his mother’s sudden death. When his estranged father (Duvall) is shockingly accused of murdering her, the two of them search for a way to clear his name. In the meantime, the two are finally able to bond.

Duvall was most recently seen in the Tom Cruise action flick Jack Reacher. The five-time Oscar nominee (and one-time winner) is best known for his roles in classic and iconic films such as The GodfatherThe Godfather: Part II, and Apocalypse Now.

What do you think of Robert Downey Jr.’s post-Iron Man 3 plans? Is Robert Duvall a good pick to play his father?
