It turns out that Wicked isn’t just “Defying Gravity”, it also happens to be defying Broadway history.
The show made $3,201,333 in just nine performances. This makes it the first show ever in Broadway history to make more than three million dollars with only a week of shows.
Some of the success came from the rising ticket prices, which jumped up twenty dollars. This makes the tickets a price of $133.56. Of course, the hustle and bustle of the city during Christmas helped too, as attendance grew from 45,000 to 290,386 theatre lovers for the holidays.
Overall, we are crazy excited that Wicked was the show to break the record. With it’s stellar performances and memorable musical numbers, we can only hope that its success continues to carry on into the new year.
