Will Benedict Cumberbatch Be Propping Up The Bar In Eastenders?

Benedict Cumberbatch would reportedly like to a take a turn in the Queen Vic in Eastenders — but will his filming schedule make it impossible?

Despite his large Hollywood profile and extensive career, Benedict Cumberbatch hasn’t forgotten his British roots — and is reportedly after a role in soap opera Eastenders!

The soap’s executive producer, Dominic Treadwell-Collins, has said that Benedict has expressed an interest in starring in the soap but that his busy schedule is proving to be a problem.

Speaking at the Radio Times TV Festival, Treadwell-Collins said “I really want Benedict Cumberbatch to come and do a turn… and he says he’ll come and do it but he is slightly busy.” He also recalled how the pair went to school together and appeared in a production of Shakespeare’s As You Like It. “I remember afterwards – running up to my mum to see if I was any good and she said, ‘Yeah, you were fine but that Benedict is an actor’.”

Danny Dyer, who plays the Queen Vic’s landlord Mick Carter in Eastenders, has previously said to the Radio Times that, if Benedict were to walk into the pub, “he’d be annihilated by geezers, he’d be bullied”. He said “he couldn’t play a kid from a working-class estate, but I couldn’t do what he does either”.

But we want to know what you think! Do you want to see Benedict mingling with the regulars in the Vic? Or would you prefer him to hurry up and get back to making more episodes of Sherlock?
