Downtown Abbey is one of the most outstanding drama series currently on television and it is preparing to return with its fifth season. Big things seem to be on the way for the TV show, as George Clooney is sort of taking part in it – or at least a sketch related to it.
The Oscar winner and Downtown‘s Hugh Bonneville are now friends and it seems the latter got the role in the Hollywood actor’s hands. The two previously worked together on The Monuments Men, on the set of which they joked about bringing Clooney to the series several times; now he is set to appear in a Christmas charity sketch for ITV’s “Text Santa”, which will take place in the show’s Highclere Castle. It was clear that the actor will not take part in an actual episode or the Christmas special, but will only guest-star in the closely-releated, short film.
Reportedly, Clooney’s part has already been shot and he plays a guest at a wedding. There is probably not much to it, as the clip is said to be only a few minutes long. Even though it would have been great to see him as a guest in the actual series, at least we will get a glimpse of what he would look like in a proper, old-school outfit for the show.
The short film will premiere on ITV in December, along with the fund-raising event, which will manage to raise money for charities all Christmas long.
