Looks like Marvel has finally set their eye on an actor to play Doctor Strange, and that actor just might be Mr. Joaquin Phoenix. The Oscar-nominated actor is reportedly in talks to play the “Sorcerers Supreme” superhero, Stephen Strange.
Fans, however, are reluctant to believe such news because Phoenix was also rumored to be Lex Luthor in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice before the role was given to Jesse Eisenberg. Many others have been rumored to be front runners for Strange including Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Hardy, Jared Leto and Hugh Laurie. Cumberbatch recently downplayed his involvement in the project because he is already committed to another project.
Marvel’s Kevin Feige has recently told MTV how the Doctor Strange project is one that has been on his mind for years because Strange is a “great, original character, and he checks the box off this criteria that I have: he’s totally different from anything else we have, just like ‘Guardians of the Galaxy.’ He’s totally different from anything we’ve done before, as is ‘Ant-Man,’ which keeps us excited.” Fans are expecting and anticipating an official confirmation at Marvel’s SDCC Panel on Saturday night.
