After what will have been a long and fruitful 17 years of donning Wolverine’s claws and leather jacket, Hugh Jackman will be making his final appearance as the cigar-chomping, foul-mouthed superhero in 2017. As we edge ever closer towards his final outing as the X-Men’s most famous hero, the man himself has turned to his fans for some inspiration to see him out… whilst in the meantime flipping the bird as Wolverine in a manner usually reserved for Cyclops:

It will be nine appearances as Wolverine and out for Jackman, who’s set to star in next year’s X-Men: Apocalypse, before he rides off into the sunset in the upcoming (and currently untitled) sequel to The Wolverine (2013), which will see James Mangold returning as director to wave Jackman off into retirement.
Jackman himself previously hinted at an “Old Man Logan” storyline for his farewell, and though certainly not old by any stretch, Jackman’s not the spring chicken he was when he first threw on the X-Men leathers.
Perhaps the most fitting suggestion of all would be a telling of the recently published “Death of Wolverine” storyline, which does exactly what it says on the tin. If Jackman’s not going to be kicking ass and taking names as Wolverine, then maybe it would be for the best to close the book on the character all together for a while. After all, who could take the place he’s so firmly made his own? Chris Pratt is linked with everything ever mentioned in the world of cinema currently, so we could start by throwing his name into the hat.
