The next time you go to the zoo, you might want to stay out of the exhibits. A 24-year-old San Luis Obispo, CA woman learned this the hard way.
According to police, the woman, Amanda Hall, climbed over the fence of the Henry Vilas Zoo giraffe enclosure in Madison, WI. Met by a second fence when she got across the first, Hall got almost to the top when she met Wally.
Standing at 12 feet tall, two year old Wally seemed a bit hot and cold about having a visitor in his enclosure. He first gave Hall a lick, then turned around and kicked her right in the face.
Though you might think that a giraffe is a harmless, gentle creature, zoo staff informed police that Hall was extremely lucky not to have life threatening injuries as these mammals have the strength to kill lions.
Fortunately she escaped with non-life threatening injuries, but she was fined $686 for the incident.
When asked why she climbed into the exhibit, police report that she simply said she loves giraffes.
