Woody Allen To Miss Accepting Award At 2014 Golden Globes Ceremony

Woody Allen is not expected to be attending next year’s Golden Globes to accept his Cecil B DeMille Award.

It comes as no surprise as the notoriously private writer/director/actor/producer rarely appears at award shows, though he has won four Academy Awards and two Golden Globes throughout his career. In fact, when he makes an appearance is more noteworthy, such as when he attended the 2002 Academy Awards where he delivered a “love letter” to New York in the wake of the 9/11 attacks.

Deadline reports that Allen has made the decision not to attend and that “the Hollywood Foreign Press Association made the decision to honor Allen without securing a commitment from him that he would attend”. There is no word on whether Allen will provide a pre-recorded acceptance speech.

When speaking about Allen during the Award announcement back in September, HFPA president Theo Kingma said, “There is no one more worthy of this award than Woody Allen. His contributions to filmmaking have been phenomenal and he truly is an international treasure.”
