YB talks new album, Fire & Desire, personal struggle, and more

Rapper YB is making a lasting impact on the music industry with his Christian background, epic flow, and dangerous beats. YB just dropped his third studio album, Fire & Desire and honestly, we already want more.

Combining his love for music and God, YB’s music really opens your eyes to personal struggle and helps you see that you’re not alone and other people are going through what you are too. Through his music, you get a sense of hope, strength, and motivation to keep going forward.

Over the years, YB has brought his Ministry to millions. — now doing so through his music. “The beginning of 2017, I felt God pushing me to make the jump to do music full time. Months before actually making the decision to truly go all-in with the music, I remember having dreams of transitioning from my job and starting fresh. God was telling me to go full time with the music and to be honest, I was terrified of the jump. My wife was a game-changer for me at that time, because she cheered me on to take those steps, and we did. But, making the jump and going all in, I saw the impact it had on the people we were serving. In 2017, I knew music was the tool I was going to use to lead and encourage people. And for me, it will always be ministry and music together. I love that formula because it’s a constant reminder that it’s bigger than me. ” Yb told us.

Whether you’ve been a fan of YB since the beginning, or he is just now being put on your radar, you should know he actually made his initial debut in 2014 with his “Salvation” album, a collection of 11 Christian Rap songs.

“I would say my experiences, style, delivery, and passion for the craft as a whole has gone to another level since my debut in 2014. My inspiration for every album has come from a journey I’ve been through. Fire & Desire came from me following God on this journey, but realizing, just because I follow God, doesn’t make the journey any easier. There’s still the good, the bad, and the ugly you’ll experience, but God is constant. He’s good no matter what our circumstances are.”

Founder of his own Record Label, Bold Records, the grind is not slowing down anytime soon. With plans to expand Bold Records, YB tells us, “we are planning to expand big time. I’m a student of everything, so I’m constantly observing and analyzing things around me, but we have our eyes on a few artists, I’m really excited to see things unfold. When we’re looking at an artist, more than anything we’re looking at two things: 1. What are they doing on their own, and 2. Is there a vision they are sold out about? Of course, their passion for God has to be greater than the music itself, but if those two are in the green, the artist will do well at Bold Records.”

“Creating this album I really sat on my past experiences. I wanted people to see my scars, battles, and setbacks, but also, point to the God who has kept me here. There’s nothing special about me, I fall like everyone else, but many people struggle to get back up, that’s where I want to help the people who are listening.”

Fan engagement is definitely pretty important when making sure that your message is heard. “It is about the people. I am a very reflective person, so when I think about the many times of me being in my room hoping and praying to one day be doing what we’re doing, how can I not support and engage with the people who have helped make my dream a reality. The people will get my vote every time.  YB notes. “For the artist who wants to make it in the industry, I would say more than anything, be authentic. Truly be you, create, and never underestimate the power of one. One follower, one play, one view, one cd sold, etc. Be encouraged, it adds up.”

“Creating this album I really sat on my past experiences. I wanted people to see my scars, battles, and setbacks, but also, point to the God who has kept me here. There’s nothing special about me, I fall like everyone else, but many people struggle to get back up, that’s where I want to help the people who are listening. I do feel like we are on the right path with this album; to many things have fallen in the right place for us for me to chunk it up as a coincidence. God is a good orchestrator. More than anything, I want people to walk away from this album knowing that they’re going to make it through. Life is hard, people are walking through storms, some of us may never experience. So when they press play on any of my music, I just hope they are encouraged to take another step.”
