It appears that Kickstarter and crowd sourcing are quickly becoming the new way for some of our most beloved celebrities to fund their labours of love. And sometimes, in a case of Zach Braff, all it takes is a little inspiration from Kristen Bell and her Marshmallows to convince yourself that fans/the public maybe the perfect people to reach out to for help.

Back in 2004, Zach Braff wrote/directed/starred in this little movie entitled, Garden State. The film is based Braff’s real life experiences and quickly became an indie success, earning Braff numerous awards for his directing. The unique thing about Garden State, Braff explains, is that it was completely financed by one individual, a fan of Scrubs who believed in Braff and his vision for a film and gave him total control of the project.

Now Zach Braff is ready to start on his follow up to Garden State, tittled Wish I Was Here. He was just about to sign a traditional financing deal with interested backers when this little thing called the Veronica Mars Movie Kickstarter came about. Braff was inspired by the intensity, generosity and  passion of the Veronica Mars fans who funded the project in a matter of hours. Braff thought, “If they could do it, why can’t I?” Hence the Wish I Was Here Kickstarter that when live April 24th, 2013 with the same goal, $2 million. It was clear rather quickly that Braff’s fans were just as committed to their Idol, quickly helping the project reach its goal. Currently, the project sits at 30,000+ backers & $2.16 million+ with 25 days left.

Zach Braff explains in the video (above) that the movie was co-written with his brother, Adam Braff, and although not a direct sequel to Garden State, it follows similar thematic elements - this time about a guy in his 30s. Braff also praises the crowd-funding route, saying that now he and his team gets to maintain control over such things as casting, soundtrack, script and final cut of the film. PLUS, it seems that Braff already has some cast members lined up! Jim Parsons (TBBT), Donald Faison (Scrubs) and Nerdist's Chris Hardwick all appear in the Kickstarter video!
