Scrubs actor Zach Braff’s Kickstarter campaign closed Friday with over $3.1 million in donations. The projects goal of $2 million was met within the first two day of the campaign reports Huffington Post. 46,520 supporters backed the project.

Braff’s use of Kickstarter for Wish I Was Here, the follow up to his 2004 film Garden State, has received a lot of flack, due to his celebrity status. People have questioned if Braff is entitled to utilize the fundraising site due to his stardom, considering the site is geared towards independent innovators to support their own projects. This ethical question was addressed in a recent New York Times article.

Wish I was Here will feature a star-studded cast, including Kate Hudson, Mandy Patinkin, Josh Gad, Anna Kendrick, and Jim Parsons.

We can be particularly excited to see Book Of Mormon’s Josh Gad in the film.

Speaking of theatre, Hudson, Patinkin and Kendrick all have a music background, so fingers crossed at least one of the bunch lend their voice to a soundtrack. There’s another Kickstarter project for Braff to consider.
