One Direction star Zayn Malik has made his first public appearance alongside his band mates since being “angry and upset” at Matt Lauer for insinuating that he missed his Today Show appearance over a drug problem.
One Direction appeared on a recent episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Malik barely said a word during the first five minutes of the interview.
Courtesy of Jimmy Kimmel Live!In a conclusive turn that seems to show Malik’s state of mind, when the boyband was asked who was most likely to disappear for a couple of days without contacting the others, the boys all looked at Malik. He in turn took it in stride and just nodded and laughed.
A couple of days before, during an interview for the Today Show (which Malik missed), host Matt Lauer asked the four other members of One Direction where Malik was. Liam Payne said that he had a stomach flu, which prompted Lauer to question the boys even further. He cited online speculations that Malik may be missing due to drug use.
This did not sit in well with Malik, who when speaking with The Sun said, “I’m really angry and upset by what was said on The Today Show. I was really ill at the weekend. That’s why I couldn’t fly to America.”
The rabid fan base of the group was not too happy with the insinuation either. Lauer was booed when he asked the question and has been lambasted on Twitter.
