Zoe Saldana is becoming a bit of a staple in the world of sci-fi films, but now she’s moving in a slightly different direction. It was announced today that the Star Trek and Avatar actress is in negotiations to star Marvel’s next big venture – Guardians of the Galaxy. She would be playing Gamora, a green-skinned alien. Gamora is the adopted daughter of Thanos, the character that is set to be the villain in Guardians of the Galaxy, but she herself is on the side of the Guardians.
Should she sign on, Saldana would not be the only big name on the call sheet. The roles of Star-Lord and Drax have recently been cast as well. The former role will be filled by “Parks & Recreation” star Chris Pratt, and the latter by WWE superstar Dave Bautista.
We’re not sure yet what to make of Guardians of the Galaxy, as two of its main characters are an anthropomorphic tree and space-raccoon, but we trust Marvel. The fact that they’ve been able to snag such big names and produce such great films in the past gives us a bit of hope!
Guardians of the Galaxy is due to hit cinemas on August 1, 2014.
