What do Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Israel, Mexico and the United Kingdom all have in common?
The answer: each of these countries has TV shows that have been nominated for this year’s 41st International Emmy Awards.
In addition to those countries, Belgium, Columbia, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden and the Philippines have returned to the Emmy race.
Meanwhile, two new countries: Angola and Uruguay will mark their nomination debut at the 41st International Emmy Awards.
“Every year, the global television community competes for an Emmy®, the most prestigious of all media awards, and we congratulate the 2013 Nominees for their outstanding programs and performances,” said Bruce L. Paisner, President & CEO of the International Academy of Television, in their press release.
The United Kingdom picked up the most nominations as it docked six: Best Arts Programing (Freddie Mercury: The Great Pretender), Best Performance By An Actor (Sean Bean in Accused), Best Performance By An Actress (Sheridan Smith in Mrs. Biggs), Comedy (Moone Boy), Drama Series (Accused) and TV Movie/Mini-Series (Secret State).
In addition to the International awards, J.J. Abrams will also receive the Founders’ Award during the November 25 ceremony in New York City.
“I am deeply grateful to Mr. Paisner and the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences for this honor, and will thank them, perhaps to an embarrassing degree, in person, in November,” Abrams told Deadline earlier this year.
