As we near Doctor Who’s 50th Anniversary special “The Day of the Doctor”, David Tennant reveals he believes fans always expected him to come back.
“I think since I left, the expectation had been that I’d end up in this special, because there is a precedent for old Doctors coming back for a visit around the anniversary time,” Tennant explained to Digital Spy.
“I was thrilled because it’s a huge thing for Doctor Who and it’s a huge thing for television in general.”
Tennant realizes how momentous this special is, but has said, “You’re just trying to film the scenes the best you possibly can, so you sort of put aside the idea that you’re making something that is a moment in television history. The pressure of that would sort of paralyze you.”
The actor’s hopes are that the 50th special will be as exciting for people today as past Doctor Who specials. “I certainly remember when ‘The Five Doctors’ was on, it was electrically exciting,” he said. “I hope that this [50th special] will have some of that buzz for today’s generation.”
It’s good to hear all of David Tennant’s positive thoughts on the upcoming special especially as we wait in anticipation for it to air.
“The Day of the Doctor” will be simulcast globally November 23rd and will be screened in 3D in cinemas across the UK, Ireland, the US, Canada, Germany and Russia on the same day.
