It’s a groundbreaking day in the NBA as it looks like Jason Collins will be the first openly gay player in action in the history of the organization.
The Huffington Post reports that the Brooklyn Nets should be signing Collins to a 10-day contract, which would make him available to play for the Nets in L.A. this Sunday. This will be the first game Collins will play in since coming out as gay in April.
Nets General Manager Billy King has remained subdued about the momumental event. According to the Associated Press, as speculation about the signing mounted, he simply stated, “We’re going to bring in a basketball player. It’s not about marketing or anything like that.”
Only time will tell if Collins’ signing will encourage more gay pro athletes to come out to the public. No matter what the future holds, though, let’s give Jason all our support and congratulations today!
