Ever go to Olive Garden, order an appetizing sounding meal only to fill up on breadsticks instead? Olive Garden has come up with the perfect solution – breadstick sandwiches. To celebrate, the chain has sent a food truck to Chicago offering free samples of the Italian meatball breadstick sandwich, the chicken parmigiana breadstick sandwich and the traditional breadsticks on their own. The free offering is part of Olive Garden’s #BreadstickNation marketing campaign, bringing attention to the new items.
The breadstick sandwiches were announced in June as one of the many updates made to the menu. Olive Garden is not stopping at sandwiches either. In August they will introduce a “breadstick crostini” – a breadstick toasted and sliced – as an appetizer. Executive Vice-President of marketing Jose Duenas summed up the brad appeal of their breadsticks, saying “the flavour profile of the breadstick is powerful”.
Olive Garden’s marketing department has been struggling to attract new customers. The menu overhaul and updated items are part of a great effort to modernize the brand.
If you’re in the Chicago area, you can still catch their food truck on Saturday and Sunday at the Southport Art Festival from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
